In our article series “The pitfalls of aesthetics” we deal with all relevant criteria that should be considered before deciding on an aesthetic treatment. The first part of the article dealt with the first step, the correct diagnosis. In the second part, we now continue with the choice of the right therapy.
The therapy
We would now like to address the pitfalls associated with the chosen therapy. For some aesthetic treatments there is only one possible therapy. However, it is often the case that there are several treatment options available to doctors for one indication. Especially when it comes to improving the skin status, there are numerous therapies that can be used. Not every aesthetic doctor must be able to treat with all possible therapies, often a selection is sufficient. It is therefore not surprising if different doctors offer different therapies for one and the same indication. Preferences and experience on the part of the practitioner also play a role here. So you should not be worried if you have heard or read something different.
It is important for you that your doctor can explain to you conclusively and plausibly why he wants to use the therapies he suggests.
It becomes very difficult for the therapists if a patient does not come to them with a problem but wants to be treated with a very special therapy. This can sometimes lead to a mix-up. To give a – admittedly – somewhat blatant example: A patient reads an article about mesotherapy and calls to have her frown line treated. Now you have to know that practically the only way to treat the frown line is by injecting so-called neuromodulators. Mesotherapy, on the other hand, is suitable for many other indications, but not for the frown line.
In any case, it is easier and better to come into aesthetic practice with a problem or a wish for change than with a specific therapy wish.
The third part deals with the expectations and the final result.
