The term detox is very often misused nowadays, in particular, many products that have nothing to do with this new catchword are being labelled with the new term. Detox is the abbreviation of detoxification.
Along with the kidney, our liver is the organ that provides the greatest detoxification performance for our body. Just imagine: If you spread all the cells of the liver evenly over an area of 40,000 square metres! The liver works almost like a purification plant: all substances that are unhealthy for our body are filtered out by it and then disposed of. But this only works as long as it is not overloaded.
Detoxification is not the only task of the liver, but it is one of the most important.
What can the liver filter out? And what are toxins that we ingest?
- Chemical substances, such as carbon tetrachloride, ethanol, petrol, thinners, etc., i.e. substances that we absorb through our breathing
- bacteria and viruses, e.g. the corona virus can also attack the liver
- heavy metals, e.g. uranium, mercury, lead
- Foods such as fast food, ready made meals, but also many other foods produced in large factories contain many substances such as preservatives that our body does not actually need. Alcohol is also known to be bad for the liver.
- Radioactivity, e.g. from X-rays or radiation during cancer treatment
- Today, drugs are at the top of the list of toxins because, while they help us, they also produce known side effects. These range from painkillers like paracetamol, indomethacin, diclofenac, immunosuppressants like cyclosporin A, to antibiotics like tetracycline, to name just a few. The so-called cytostatic drugs used in chemotherapy also have to be disposed of by the liver. Anabolic steroids, which are taken by unreasonable people in the fitness industry, also damage the liver.
Our liver often does not feel well without us noticing it. To get back to the picture of the purification plant: We often do not notice that the filter is getting fuller and fuller and therefore does not work as well. The toxic substances then accumulate in the organism. Elderly people are particularly affected, who often have several illnesses and therefore have to take many drugs.
The good news is that there is a substance that can improve the performance of the liver again, namely PPC or better yet DLPC, a special lecithin that has been used successfully for more than 50 years in the treatment of liver disease. This helps to regenerate the liver cells.
It is important not to wait until the damage is already done, because liver diseases only really become apparent at a very late stage. Unfortunately, our liver suffers silently and usually only reacts with everyday symptoms that all of us experience from time to time. It is better to prevent it by taking oral PPC, e.g. Memphosan recommended by the Network-Globalhealth.
